Catch 'em in town while ya can, because not only are Immaculate
Machine embarking on an epic six-month Canadian tour (!), but, if
the songs on Transporter are any indication, they're also heading
for the big leagues. I mean, a song like "No Way Out"
has wunder-hit all over it (and I don't use the term "wunderhit"
lightly, believe you me.) That song and other album highlights are
driven by keyboardist-vocalist Kathryn Calder's incredible voice;
she's our version of the woman from The Cranberries (what, you want
to try and spell her name?) The melodic breeze of Calder's songs
are contrasted with the more upbeat pop stylings and melancholy
crooning (I hear a whole lotta Chet at points here) found elsewhere
on Transporter's 11 songs. All told, one or two don't work out so
well, but the gems are solid gold.
