Describe your band’s sound in just five words:
“Indie pop, occasional violent outbursts,” calculates
guitarist Brooke Gallupe.
Been together since?
“October 2002,” says Gallupe (the band also consists
of keyboardist Kathryn Calder and drummer Luke Kozlowski—all
three share vocal duties). “We’ve known each other forever
though; we played in other bands together (and separately) for a
long time.”
Latest release?
“The View EP. Six songs, a little roller coaster of love
and political dissent.”
Guilty musical pleasures?
“We like tons of bad music, but we don’t feel guilty
about it. We listen to almost anything, really.”
What’s your live show usually like?
“We usually start to sweat by song number two, and continue
throughout the show,” says Gallupe. “Which isn’t
to say there aren’t dynamic lows. In fact, I think we shift
tempo too much for most people to dance; audiences just stare at
us and tap their feet or scratch their heads in time while I wave
my arms around and Luke crashes around on his drums. Kathryn’s
always busy doing millions of things, but her legs end up wiggling
in spite of her.”
Most memorable moment as a band?
“Laughing so hard it hurt and not really knowing what about
(on numerous occasions).”
Who’s on your dream tour?
“Serge Gainsbourg, Blonde Redhead, Talking Heads, Velvet
Underground.”
Member of your band who most needs a hug?
“Depends . . . who’s offering?”
Upcoming shows?
“December 5th at Logan’s, with Chet.”
Future plans?
“Record and release a full-length album, buy a van, tour
Canada again.”
