Sure Things: The Coast, Halifax (June 24-July 1st)

Immaculate Machine
Friday at The Idiot

Immaculate Machine and Halifax venues don't mix. When the indie-pop trio performed at Salvation last month, Halifax's finest put the kibosh on festivities just as the band was finishing their set.

It was a real amazing show," says vocalist/guitarist Brooke Gallupe during a pit stop in Sudbury. Close to the end of our set the cops showed up and ushered everyone out. There was a huge panic, but it just added to the excitement." This time through the band hits The Idiot June 25 to perform the bars last show ever. We really have a way with shutting down venues," jokes Gallupe.

The band has fared a little better with the release of their first full-length album Transporter. A hearty mix of smart pop, atmospheric new wave and garage rock, the album has received some rave reviews in their Victoria, BC base and is slowly starting to make a wave across the country.

There's no real press blitz because we're doing it ourselves and we don't have the time or money for that sort of thing. It's a grassroots sort of thing," says Gallupe. We want to get a big tour under our belts and get our name recognized in Canada, and hopefully let the momentum carry us."

And that's exactly what they're doing. The band is currently on the tail end of a two-month Canadian stint, and plans on spending the summer in Ontario before touring back west in the fall.

Part of the fun is spending time in new cities and seeing new places," says Gallupe. And our van is pretty set up. It's become our home." - Chuck Teed
