Chart Attack, Sept. 17/04
Victoria's Immaculate Machine have been on the road all summer,
and haven't set foot anywhere West of Calgary in almost six months.
Instead, the trio rented a house in Toronto and focussed their attention
on the Eastern half of the country, including a couple of jaunts
out to The Maritimes. Before they return home to sunny British Columbia
at the end of next month, the band will be taking one more stab
at The Maritimes ·September 17 in Halifax and September 19
in Sydney ·and they have bar owners shaking in their shoes.
Immaculate Machine have developed a reputation for closing down
bars in Halifax. Their springtime gig at Salvation was ended with
a sea of police shutting the venue down for selling alcohol without
a license and a month later, they had the unfortunate duty of playing
the final show at The Idiot.
"It is a weird streak we have going," says frontman Brooke
Gallupe. "Maybe it's part of a subconscious coastal rivalry
·it's a tough battle, because both Victoria and Halifax are
awesome small cities with vibrant arts scenes and good bands. As
for Stage Nine, we're kind of hoping it will just surrender and
shut itself down after the show, so we don't have to."
