More Women Are Using Acupuncture To Conceive

Acupuncture is an old form of alternative medicine which treats patients with the insertion of needles in the body. Acupuncturists claim that it is a pain reliever, prevents disease, and can even cure infertility! It should be known that there is no conclusive evidence that states that acupuncture can cure anything, however many people opt into this form of alternative treatment along with Chinese herbs. As of recent, many women, especially older women whom have spent thousands of dollars on fertility drugs, are now opting into acupuncture in the hopes of conceiving. It is thought to be a natural approach for women with fertility issues in order to get pregnant. One popular female journalist from Florida did just this and had incredible results.

Stacey Adams met her husband well into her 30's and after spending over twenty thousands dollars on conventional fertility treatments, she decided to try acupuncture. After several attempts at invitro fertilization and multiple tests to determine if she were fertile, nothing was conclusive and results were nil. Years later, while in her 40's and almost giving up on the chances of ever starting a family, Stacy Adams found a wellness center that claimed acupuncture treatments would help with fertility. Along with the treatments, Stacey participated in herbal vitamins and a regiment of lifestyle changes. Shortly after, she started to see changes in her menstrual cycles and overall health. After only two months of treatments, Stacey Adams is now five months pregnant with her first child.

So how can it be that acupuncture can be related to fertility and the chances of pregnancy? Where is the evidence and what exactly is happening? Dr. Huffman of the Huffman Wellness Center in Tampa, Florida, says that "when small needles are placed inside certain parts of the body, that it triggers life energy called "Qi's"." Huffman also said that "this helps improve blood flow, reduces stress, and regulates the hormones which opens up the pathway from the brain to the reproductive organs such as the ovaries." She also believes that acupuncture can be done with or without conventional fertility treatments, such as IUI's or invitro fertilization. Other doctors say the jury is still out when it comes to fertility treatments and acupuncture, however Dr. Hoffman goes with the approach "it cannot be proven NOT to work either". As well, acupuncture treatments cost a fraction of what other fertility treatments can cost. One session usually runs from $80 to $100, depending on how long the session is.
